I do have to give credit to the Kardashian sisters, especially Kim, for putting me onto laser hair removal.  I decided to do some investigating and found the BellaRosaClinic.com website. Located in Houston, Texas, Bella Rosa is a medspa, rather than a day spa, which means that a doctor is on the premises and that you are treated by trained and certified professionals.  That’s always a plus, as you don’t want some fly-by-night store front with nothing but 3rd rate equipment and a chair to sit in taking a laser  to your skin.  They damage they could do could scar you for life.

Medspas aren’t like spa retreats, where you go to relax, get a massage and a facial and have your nails done.  The stuff medspas do—and they do a lot of stuff—gets under your skin to the source of the problem, so having a doctor on hand is rather handy.  What’s really cool about the Bella Rosa Medspa is the plastic surgery center it is located in, so if you want a little nip and tuck—or, dare I say, boob job—you are right there! Back when your grandmother cared whether or not she had long hairs growing from her chin, people freed themselves of tweezers and wax by getting electrolysis, which means they zapped where the hair wasn’t wanted with a spark of electricity—kind of like a little Taser.  Ouch!   (Can  you just smell the sizzle of singed hair?!)  It also took lots and lots of time because it was so damaging to the skin, they could only do little bits in a session and had to wait quite a while before going back for more.

Your mom probably could have had laser treatments when she was 30-something, but back then, lasers weren’t as advanced as they are now and treatment sessions were way too pricey, so most people saved up their pennies and settled for electrolysis instead.  And if they did go for laser treatments, it was still really painful—both to the face and the wallet.  (Like a bad sunburn, they said.  Ha!)

Honestly, my hair has ALWAYS been long (ever since I can remember) so I am just programmed to take care of it properly. Well I’m assuming what I do is “proper” considering it stays in pretty good health all year round So considering I have never had hair above my shoulders, I can’t really compare what it’s like caring for long vs. short. But I would imagine that the way you care for your hair depends more on the TYPE of hair you have rather than length. Obviously if you have chin-length, super curly tendrils all over your head that is far more work that having ass-length straight hair.

SO… onward to my list of hair tricks and tips that has kept my very long hair in very healthy condition over the years!

1. Avoid sulfates!!!!!! I can’t stress enough the importance of using sulfate-free shampoo! I have been sulfate-free for about three years now and my hair has never looked better. Sulfates are a harsh detergent chemical that can cause hair thinning, folicle damage and even CANCER. Look for Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Ammonium Sulfate (anything that says Sulfate) on the top of the ingredients list on your shampoo bottle. You can get sulfate-free shampoo anywhere these days… Walgreens, Walmart, CVS and of course beauty stores. Some of my favorite brands are RenPure and Organix.
2. Immediately follow your shampoo with your conditioner, but don’t rinse. Massage the conditioner in from root to tip for a couple minutes, use a little water to help you distribute the conditioner, and leave it in for the remainder of your shower. The very LAST step before you get out should be to rinse. This allows the conditioner enough time to penetrate the hair shaft. If you are worried about getting conditioner in your eyes, pickup some shower caps from the dollar store and wear it over your conditioned head while you finish your shower.
3. Don’t wash your hair with super hot water. I know it’s tempting because it feels so good, but your hair will do much better in cooler water. The cooler the water, the shinier and less frizzy the hair shaft
4. Always use a leave-in conditioner, at least on your ends. I have fine hair so it doesn’t take much product to make my hair look greasy, so I’ve mastered the technique of leave-in conditioner. Start with towel dried hair. I use a quarter-sized glob and work from the bottom up. Make sure your ends are really saturated and then move up your length. Whatever conditioner I have remaining on my hands (which usually isn’t much) by the time I get to my scalp, is what I use for the top of my hair. I like to make sure I get my part where the frizzies pop up. I like all of Wen’s cleansing conditioners as leave-ins (but I don’t really like them as a shampoo/conditioner substitute… just as a leave-in) and SunSilk makes pretty nice leave-ins too.
5. If you can, air dry. I have naturally straight hair so skipping the blow dryer isn’t a problem for me. But if you have waves or curls, work with your natural texture and skip the hot tools 3 or 4 times a week, your hair will thank you for it.
6. Again, if you can, only wash your hair every other day. The natural oils that your scalp produces are really good for your hair shaft. I personally have to wash my hair pretty much every day because it’s fine and blonde, so you can really notice when it’s dirty. But if you have darker hair and can pull off a pony tail, go for it!

So now a little about me. As I stated above, my name is Chelsey. Most of my friends simply call me Chels. I was born into this world on November 23rd, 1984 making me 24 years old. Tucson Arizona has forever been the place I call home. This really is an amazing city. I have traveled to 12 different states over the course of my life and nothing, in my opinion, can compare to Tucson. The mountains, the sunsets, the monsoons.. Tucson just encompasses everything that makes you appreciate life a little more.

I have two jobs, which I love, but only one do I consider my career. I have worked as an office manager for a little real estate appraisal firm for the past five years. Real estate has always interested me, probably because my grandparents were realtors and always took me to work with them to be their little helper. My other job title is a freelance web designer. I started doing freelance web work in 2005 and keep a current portfolio at my design website, www.Chels.net. Now let’s talk about family. I used to consider myself to have an incredibly large, loving family. That is definitely not the case anymore. I have a little brother and sister who I used to be extremely close with, but certain events caused us to devistatingly drift apart. I still love them more than life.

Moving on! I am the epitome of a girly girl.  I have an incredible addiction to all things beauty and style. I have a plethra of makeup, hair products, nail polish, perfumes.. you name it and I’ve probably got it. I consider the front doors to Sephora to be my pearly gates to Heaven. One of my other addictions is Coach handbags and accessories. So far my Coach collection includes: 6 large purses, 6 matching wallets, 2 wristlets, 2 key fobs, and 1 pair of eyeglasses. Shopping is love!

I don’t know much about cars, but I know I love my car. It is a 2006 Dodge Magnum R/T with a V8 hemi. VROOM! I also have a 2000 Dodge Stratus, as that was my first car and I just couldn’t bear to part with it. I am sentimental like that. I, sadly, have sold my Dodge Stratus and replaced it with a Chrysler Sebring.

I consider my friends to be the most awesome people of all time. I can’t think of anywhere I would rather be than out with my friends, on a dance floor and with a drink in my hand. Our intoxicated nights out are definitely what keep me sane in this busy and sometimes drama-filled life.

Well I stopped saving BECAUUUUUUSEEEEEE Mikey Wikey bought me TWO, not one but TWOOOOOOOOOO Coach purses for my birthday/Christmas!!! Not only that but he also bought me a matching Coach WALLET and KEYCHAIN!!!!!! ROCK THE FUCK ON!!!!!! :lol: He made me the happiest Chelsey that I’ve been in so long.

Other (less exciting) Christmas presents that I received consisted of: TONS of Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush stuff, a crockpot (I must be getting old.. people are getting me kitchen appliances as presents), a $50 SpaFinder gift card, $300 from my pops, $1,500 from my boss (he loves me alot lol), an OfficeMax gift card (which gets the random present award this year) and lots of other misc. stuff!
