Home Life
Career, Life, PurchasesSo I haven’t posted a personal entry in a long time. It’s weird you get carried away with life and get too busy… to blog about your life. Anyhoo.
I became a homeowner in March! I was able to tax advantage of the $8,000 tax credit and get into a gorgeous brand-new-never-lived-in house on a beautiful side of town. I’ve never felt so lucky, honestly.
I had been living in a fourplex for the past 4 years, which I used to really like. It was a nice apartment but in a horrible area. The straw that broke the camel’s back was a shooting that happened in front of my doorstep. I was outside with my dog and noticed a car full of people at the end of our driveway… and they were just staring at me. I had become so cold to all the suspicious activity from living in the neighborhood for so long that I didn’t really thing twice about it. I take my dog inside and 5 minutes later, gunshots. Someone from the car had broken into the apartment directly facing mine, literally a few feet away, and they exchanged gunfire. Both the intruder and my neighbor both shot each other. My neighbor was taking a shower with his gun when the guy broke in (to collect a drug debt), so obviously he knew it was coming. One of them crawled out of the apartment on his elbows and laid in the driveway, pooling blood, while the other laid shot in the shower. It was a crazy thing to see. And knowing that I was outside just seconds before it happened was enough for me to give my 30 days notice to my landlord the next morning.
So the move was the most major thing that’s happened this year. In June I got “promoted” at work, so I’ve been adjusting to my new position. I’m now responsible for the bookkeeping and accounting, which was a completely new thing for me. Math has never been my forte, so it’s been a learning experience for sure. I like it though. I was ready for the challenge.
Other then that I’ve just been working on getting moved in. Yeah, I technically moved in 5 months ago, but I’m still not unpacked! Shopping for house stuff is so fun too. Now I walk through Home Depot with a purpose LOL. We just finished landscaping the backyard. My boyfriend owns a landscaping company so that was convenient
They installed irrigation and hauled 22 tons of decorative rock! We went and picked out an apple tree, two pomegranate trees and a tangelo tree to plant. The tangelo tree is so special to me because my grandparents had tangelo trees too. One of my favorite memories as a child is picking tangelos with my grandma. Everytime I look at my own tangelo tree I think of them. It’s my way of always keeping them close to my heart and that is really a priceless gift for me.
I’m still doing web design, and more importantly, still loving it! I’m a busy girl but I wouln’t want it any other way. Man, I miss blogging here
Chelsey’s Hair Tips
Beauty, hair, Health
Throughout my entire life I’ve always gotten comments or questions about my hair. “How do you keep your hair so long AND healthy? It must be hard taking care of it all!”
Honestly, my hair has ALWAYS been long (ever since I can remember) so I am just programmed to take care of it properly. Well I’m assuming what I do is “proper” considering it stays in pretty good health all year round
So considering I have never had hair above my shoulders, I can’t really compare what it’s like caring for long vs. short. But I would imagine that the way you care for your hair depends more on the TYPE of hair you have rather than length. Obviously if you have chin-length, super curly tendrils all over your head that is far more work that having ass-length straight hair.
SO… onward to my list of hair tricks and tips that has kept my very long hair in very healthy condition over the years!
- Avoid sulfates!!!!!! I can’t stress enough the importance of using sulfate-free shampoo! I have been sulfate-free for about three years now and my hair has never looked better. Sulfates are a harsh detergent chemical that can cause hair thinning, folicle damage and even CANCER. Look for Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Ammonium Sulfate (anything that says Sulfate) on the top of the ingredients list on your shampoo bottle. You can get sulfate-free shampoo anywhere these days… Walgreens, Walmart, CVS and of course beauty stores. Some of my favorite brands are RenPure and Organix.
- Immediately follow your shampoo with your conditioner, but don’t rinse. Massage the conditioner in from root to tip for a couple minutes, use a little water to help you distribute the conditioner, and leave it in for the remainder of your shower. The very LAST step before you get out should be to rinse. This allows the conditioner enough time to penetrate the hair shaft. If you are worried about getting conditioner in your eyes, pickup some shower caps from the dollar store and wear it over your conditioned head while you finish your shower.
- Don’t wash your hair with super hot water. I know it’s tempting because it feels so good, but your hair will do much better in cooler water. The cooler the water, the shinier and less frizzy the hair shaft
- Always use a leave-in conditioner, at least on your ends. I have fine hair so it doesn’t take much product to make my hair look greasy, so I’ve mastered the technique of leave-in conditioner. Start with towel dried hair. I use a quarter-sized glob and work from the bottom up. Make sure your ends are really saturated and then move up your length. Whatever conditioner I have remaining on my hands (which usually isn’t much) by the time I get to my scalp, is what I use for the top of my hair. I like to make sure I get my part where the frizzies pop up. I like all of Wen’s cleansing conditioners as leave-ins (but I don’t really like them as a shampoo/conditioner substitute… just as a leave-in) and SunSilk makes pretty nice leave-ins too.
- If you can, air dry. I have naturally straight hair so skipping the blow dryer isn’t a problem for me. But if you have waves or curls, work with your natural texture and skip the hot tools 3 or 4 times a week, your hair will thank you for it.
- Again, if you can, only wash your hair every other day. The natural oils that your scalp produces are really good for your hair shaft. I personally have to wash my hair pretty much every day because it’s fine and blonde, so you can really notice when it’s dirty. But if you have darker hair and can pull off a pony tail, go for it!
That’s all I’ve got. I hope this was a useful read for you and your hair

Technology + Auto Repair = Cake
auto, internet, repair, TechnologyI love living in the internet age. You can pretty much do anything you need over the internet. I was pretty impressed when I was able to simple pay bills online, but now you can even get vehical repair estimates done online lol. I remember, maybe 5 years ago, digging out the yellow pages and going down the list, calling every single auto repair place and explaining to them what I needed done, in a search to find the absolute cheapest route.
Maybe 4 years ago, I was searching for quotes to get the timing belt replaced on my Honda Accord. I literally spent half a day skimming through phone numbers. On another occasion, I got stranded in San Francisco after my water pump died, so I had to borrow a stranger’s phone book to lookup San Franciso auto repair places. Not fun times!
Thankfully, the world is a-changing and becoming a delightful tech-savvy place, making things as annoying as auto repair as efficient as can be.
Web Hosting Do’s & Dont’s
domain, Hosting, information, internet
Confused about how to choose a good web hosting company? Read my two cents on the matter.
Having been involved in the wonderous web world since the tender age of 13, I consider myself to have been “around the block” when it comes to web hosting. I made my debut in the web design field on community websites such as MiGente and BlackPlanet (the whitey’s had to conform before myspace came around lol), which led me to becoming hosted on a subdomain through a friend, which eventually led to the birth of Bad-Behavior.com! Buying my OWN domain name and hosting space for the first time was so exciting. I racked my brain for weeks trying to come up with a domain name that would never go out of style or that I would get sick of. I definitely achieved that with Bad-Behavior.com as I’ve owned it for 6 years now.
Throughout my 6 years of domain ownership, I have definitely seen some turbulent times in regards to web hosting. Back in 2004 I was broke as a joke, barely able to pay rent, so of course I scoured the internet for the cheapest hosting deal I could possibly find. I definitely found it. Webhostingboy.com hosted my website for $4.95 per month for unlimited space/bandwidth. If you need assistance with how much space and bandwidth you might need, check out a web hosting guide to give you an idea. it was definitely a nice deal at first, but after my website experienced frequent downtime, poor support and eventually the loss/demise of my entire website.. I realized you definitely get what you pay for in the web hosting world.
I tried out a few more “economy” hosting companies and all ended with the same result. I decided spending a few dollars more to host your website with a reputable company was WELL worth the money. Now, after dealing with such poor service, a feature I require from my hosting company is 24/7 live chat support. I don’t care if you can help me over the phone.. I don’t want to spend an hour dialing buttons to get to you. I want a real person to connect to through a chat client. Hostgator.com has been great in accommodating me for the past 2 years.
Chelsey’s Web Hosting Tips:
- DO YOUR RESEARCH! Check out a web hosting directory, read reviews, forum posts, etc.
- Always look for contact information. Posted phone numbers & addresses are vital. If you have a problem, you want it handled ASAP.
- Never pay for a year’s worth of hosting in advance. You might hate the company after 2 months and they could refuse a refund.
- Remember.. you get what you pay for in the web hosting world!
That’s about it. Check out this article if you want to know more about how to choose the best hosting company. Happy hunting!
Happy Holidays
Just a quick post to wish you all a very blessed Christmas and New Years! See you in 2010
Cuddle Me Warm
Designer, Fashion, Shopping
Happy November everyone! I LOVE this time of year. I can finally cuddle up into my soft and cozy sweatshirts and blankets. Tucson doesn’t get super ridiculously cold, but us desert rats are so used to 110 degree weather in September that anything below 75 gives us chills
Plus I get to go cozy sweater SHOPPING! I love me some hoodies in the winter. I’m sort of getting sucked into the Ed Hardy black hole. He has some pretty sharp threads. And of course, I love the fact that my beloved Zappos carries the Ed Hardy brand in all of it’s Hardy glory.
Oh, did I mention November is also fabulous because it’s my birthday month?
I’m turning 25 in exactly ONE week. Jesus I’m old.
Boo!
Funny, Halloween, Helmet
It’s the last day of September.. which means my FAVORITE holiday ever is just around the corner! HALLOWEEN!!!!! It’s not even October yet and I already have my entire Halloween costume planned and purchased.. how pathetic I am :) This year I’m going as a devil. I bought this totally hot black and red wig (pictured to the left :P ), devil horns, devil tail, pitchfork.. the whole enchilada.
I almost got attacked by my puppy Helmet when I put my wig on the other day LOL. It was hilarious because he is so lazy and quiet, I’ve only heard him bark maybe 5 times since I’ve had him. I stood in my bedroom doorway with the wig on, Helmet slowly stands to all fours, flares his big ass shark teeth at me and just starts barking like CRAZY! I was seriously scared lmao. I took it off and he stood there looking all confused like “where’d the other bitch go?” haha. Love him.
7 Myths About Chocolate
Food, Guest BloggersThe following is a guest blog entry written by freelance writer, Mary Ward.
For centuries, chocolate, and the cocoa from which it is made, has been a sought after substance. It’s far and away the most popular candy type, and sells by the millions year after year. But, there are many myths surrounding chocolate. So, let’s take a look at some of these myths and the truth behind them.
1. Chocolate is bad for you – Not so, at least in its simplest form. Cocoa comes from a bean, making it a plant based product. As such it is full of anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants are important because they work to rid your body of free radicals, naturally occurring oxygen molecules that, when left unchecked, cause cell damage. Free radicals contribute to the development of cancer, heart disease and many other illnesses. We all need plenty of anti-oxidants in our diet to get rid of these free radicals before they damage our cells. Ounce for ounce, cocoa and dark chocolate have more anti-oxidants than blueberries, green tea and red wine – all considered anti-oxidant powerhouses.
2. Chocolate causes acne – Actually, this is most likely just an old wives tale. Studies going back to 1960 have shown that even when large amounts of chocolate are consumed, it has no correlation to getting acne. In fact, in most people, diet as a whole has no bearing on acne.
3. Chocolate causes migraines – Another old wives, tale, it seems. Many studies have been conducted on migraine triggers and chocolate has never been shown to trigger migraines; even when the studies were conducted on people who believed themselves to be chocolate sensitive.
4. Chocolate is high in caffeine – Milk chocolate has about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of decaffeinated coffee. Chocolate does, however, contain theobromine, a caffeine related substance. Theobromine is far less powerful than caffeine.
5. Chocolate causes tooth decay. In fact, chocolate may actually decrease your risk of tooth decay, because recent studies have shown that flavanol anti-oxidants may actually slow the buildup of plaque. Recent dental studies have also shown that tooth decay is mostly caused from foods that linger in the mouth. Chocolate leaves the mouth very quickly, so it is not a serious cause of tooth decay.
6. Many people are allergic to chocolate. Chocolate actually is a food that is very low on the food allergen list. Many people, however, probably wish they were allergic to it!
7. Chocolate makes kids hyperactive – Sugar can sometimes cause children to have excessive energy. And, compared with many other desserts, most chocolate is actually not as high in sugar as many other items. In addition, research has shown that it’s often the atmosphere where sugary substances are served (think birthday party) that causes kids to go wild.
So as you can see, chocolate is not the enemy. And, in fact, if you choose your chocolate wisely, it is actually your friend. Many doctors recommend one ounce of dark chocolate per day to boost your anti-oxidant intake level. So, eat up! Just make sure chocolate, like other treats is eaten in moderation.
